Akkeshi Distillery began whisky production in 2016 in eastern Hokkaido, an area characterised by a cool, humid coastal climate. Inspired in part by traditional Scottish whisky making, Akkeshi has developed its own distinctive Japanese identity while exploring local ingredients and different styles of maturation.

The distillery has become particularly well known among collectors for its Twenty-Four Solar Terms series, with releases named after the traditional Japanese seasonal calendar. The series showcases different aspects of Akkeshi's malt and blended whisky and has helped establish the distillery internationally.

With relatively limited production and growing international recognition, Akkeshi has quickly become one of the Japanese distilleries watched closely by whisky enthusiasts and collectors.
