Karuizawa Distillery was founded in 1955 near Mount Asama and went on to produce some of the most sought-after Japanese single malt whiskies ever released. Known for its small-scale production, use of Golden Promise barley and extensive maturation in sherry casks, Karuizawa developed a distinctive style that has become highly prized among whisky enthusiasts.
Production ceased in 2000 and the distillery was subsequently closed, making the remaining Karuizawa stocks finite. Over the years, these stocks have produced an extraordinary range of vintage single casks, limited editions and highly collectible series that are increasingly difficult to acquire.
