Fuji Gotemba Distillery was established by Kirin in 1972 at the foot of Mount Fuji in Shizuoka Prefecture. Its location, climate and access to water filtered through the volcanic geology of Mount Fuji contribute to the distillery's distinctive identity.

Unlike many Japanese whisky distilleries, Fuji Gotemba produces both malt and several styles of grain whisky at a single site. This versatility has allowed the distillery to create a broad range of whiskies under the Fuji and Kirin names.

Older, discontinued and limited Fuji Gotemba releases have become increasingly interesting to enthusiasts and collectors as appreciation of the breadth and history of Japanese whisky has grown internationally.
