Produced at Suntory’s historic mountain distillery, Hakushu is one of Japan’s leading single malt whiskies. Hailing from the untouched forests and pure waters of the Southern Japanese Alps, stylistically Hakushu is a herbal, fresh and gently smoky expression, and a favourite of whisky connoisseurs, mixologists and lovers of gastronomy. Hakushu 18 Year Old is one of the top releases from this producer and a rare whisky to encounter. Skilfully made with an incredible precision, this wonderful release somehow combines great delicacy and power, with ease. Subtle and focussed notes of ripe pear, dried mint, oregano and smoke feature on a haunting nose, whilst the palate features suggestions of jasmine, mango, quince and spice. Long and smoky on the finish, with a pleasing hint of bitterness, this is a perfect whisky that is worthy of the hype.
